Cristiano Ronaldo has become the first player to score in six FIFA World Cup tournaments following his brace against Uzbekistan. He has also scored the most World Cup goals for Portugal (10), breaking a 60-year record held by his compatriot, Eusebio.
The 41-year-old Portuguese captain also became the oldest player to score more than one goal in a World Cup game. During the encounter against Uzbekistan, Ronaldo opened the scoring for Portugal in the sixth minute after receiving an assist from Joao Cancelo.

In the 17th minute, Nuno Mendes scored a brilliant freekick from range to double the lead. Ronaldo received an outstanding assist from Bruno Fernandes and went on to score Portugal’s third and his second goal of the game in the 38th minute.
After the halftime break, an attempt deflected off Uzbekistan’s Abduvakhid Nematov and went into the back of the net. The goal was recorded as an own goal, and the scoreline became 4-0 at the hour mark. Three minutes before regulation (87′), Rafael Leao rifled a rebound from close range into the back of the net, and the game ended 5-0 in favor of Portugal.
Meanwhile, Roberto Martinez’s Portugal has registered four points from two games in Group G, and they are the leaders in the standings ahead of Colombia, DR Congo, and Uzbekistan.

Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed that he heard about the suggestions from certain individuals urging him to retire. He went on to disclose that he’s still available and ready to deliver.
In an interview after the 5-0 win over Uzbekistan, Ronaldo revealed that he and his teammates are united, saying (via Fabrizio Romano on X):
“They said I should retire… but I am here. The noise from outside is always like this, but we can’t control it. We keep going, and we are united.”
After a poor attacking display against DR Congo, the 41-year-old redeemed himself by scoring a brace in Portugal’s second game in Group K. He will be looking to add more goals to his name in their final game of the group against Colombia.
The FIFA World Cup game between Portugal and Colombia will be played at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami on Sunday, June 28.
