John Cena has revealed a bizarre career goal that he eventually hopes to achieve. He retired from professional wrestling in 2025, losing to Gunther in his final match.

Cena has appeared on WWE television since his retirement, hosting WrestleMania 42. He also appeared at the Backlash Premium Live Event, announcing the John Cena Classic, an event and a championship created by the 17-time WWE World Champion. The event will help highlight up-and-coming WWE talent.

Speaking with Good Housekeeping, Cena revealed that his ultimate goal is to make sure that people forget about him.

“My goal for my stay in the business is to leave it better than I found it-and my résumé is a byproduct of that. I know none of us live forever. Nobody remembers anything. People forget about me. So, my hope for the future is that people forget about me.” said Cena.

Cena hopes that the new generation of WWE Superstars has enough gravity and relevance to influence the audience.

If [the new WWE] stars have enough gravity, have enough relevance, they should be the ones influencing the audience, the people, in the arena. That is my hope, amazingly-that people forget.” added Cena. [H/T: WrestlePurists]

John Cena revealed what he misses most about professional wrestling

John Cena has revealed that he misses the energy of the WWE Universe, especially when he walked through the curtain. However, the former multi-time WWE World Champion is convinced that he would never step back into the squared circle, as he isn’t capable of taking a bodyslam any longer.

Speaking on The Tonight Show, Cena said:

“No. What I miss is the audience. The energy that I feel when you come through the curtain. I had to walk away because I can’t get bodyslammed anymore,” Cena said in reply to Jimmy Fallon asking him if he missed wrestling.

There are currently no further updates on the John Cena Classic. It remains to be seen when the event is scheduled.
