Former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown ignited backlash after taking a swipe at De’Aaron Fox after the San Antonio Spurs’ NBA Finals defeat.
On Sunday, Brown made a tweet criticizing Fox.
Thanks for the submission!
“De’Aaron Fox ain’t nothing but D’Angelo Russell with John Calipari’s phone number,” Brown wrote.

The Spurs had just fallen 94-90 to the New York Knicks in Game 5, handing New York its first championship in over five decades. Jalen Brunson dominated with 45 points, leading a fourth-quarter comeback where the Knicks outscored San Antonio 29-18 to close the series 4-1.
Fox’s performance became a point of criticism. He struggled badly in the title-clinching game, scoring just seven points on 3-of-15 shooting while committing costly mistakes. He continued a rough stretch that included a late-game blunder in Game 4. His inefficiency was highlighted by broader issues for the Spurs’ backcourt. The backcourt failed to generate offense as the game slipped away in the final minutes.
Brown’s comparison to D’Angelo Russell appears to question Fox’s reliability under pressure. Analysts, including Charles Barkley, openly questioned whether Fox should have remained on the floor during crucial stretches due to his struggles.
Despite the harsh criticism, Fox’s overall season had been instrumental in guiding a young Spurs roster to the Finals. However, the series exposed inconsistency in late-game decision-making and shot selection. San Antonio led multiple games, including a double-digit advantage in Game 5, but repeatedly failed to close.
Antonio Brown blasted De’Aaron Fox after Game 4 collapse
Following the San Antonio Spurs’ stunning Game 4 loss in the NBA Finals, Antonio Brown aimed at De’Aaron Fox.
The Spurs, who hold Fox on a four-year, $229 million contract, suffered a 107-106 defeat to the New York Knicks after blowing a 29-point lead. The loss put San Antonio down 3-1 in the series.
“BREAKING: Man arrested for stealing $229 million dollars from the San Antonio Spurs,” Brown wrote on Thursday.
With 12 seconds remaining and the Spurs up by one, Fox chased a loose ball and attempted a layup instead of running out the clock. OG Anunoby blocked the shot.
Fox then committed an unnecessary foul at halfcourt, despite the defense being set. Anunoby sealed the game with a tip-in winner with 1.2 seconds left.
