Tennis legend John McEnroe witnessed the New York Knicks win their third NBA Championship of his lifetime just days after showcasing his optimistic approach during the team’s historic Game 4 comeback. The Knicks clinched their win their first NBA title in 53 years on Saturday.

The win seemed to be a reward for McEnroe, who recalled the “most positive” cheering experience he had ever had as a fan during Game 4. He was watching the New York Knicks vs. the San Antonio Spurs game alongside American comedian Larry David. When the Knicks were trailing by 29 points, David wanted to leave the arena, losing hope of their victory.

However, the former World No.1 tennis player convinced him to stay positive and keep watching. The Knicks then produced one of the greatest comebacks, reversing the huge gap and winning 107-106. Reflecting on the incident, McEnroe said:

“I said, ‘Larry, let’s get positive here. If they get it down [from 29] to 25, 21, 18, it’s 15 at the end of the [third] quarter.’ This type of stuff. ‘Let’s keep it positive. That’s the most positive I’ve ever been at a game, and I’ve been at a lot of sporting events over the course of my 56 years of coming to Knicks games when I was 8 years old.” (via sports.yahoo.com)

The Knicks won the title after dominating the best-of-seven championship series 4-1. They beat the San Antonio Spurs 94-90 in Game 5.

John McEnroe reflected on Jannik Sinner’s shocking loss at the 2026 French Open Tournament. He was seen struggling during the faceoff and also asked for a medical timeout. John McEnroe highlighted that Sinner has suffered from cramping at multiple instances before in extreme heat. He further believed that the Italian ace’s team must have tried making changes to reduce the issue.

“This is not a new issue. He’s had trouble with this for a couple of years. It is brutal when you have to deal with this kind of heat, but he has had three or four different occasions when he has cramped up.”

“So I’m assuming that over the course of the last three or four years, they have been doing everything they can possibly do, whether it’s testing or food intake, to work out a way to minimise this issue. I think they will continue to do that. In my opinion, it’s in his head a little bit. It’s hard to deal with that and remain calm.” (via tennisworldusa.org)

Sinner lost to Argentina’s Juan Manuel Cerundolo 3-6, 2-6, 7-5, 6-1, 6-1 in the second round.
