The Los Angeles Dodgers bolstered their outfield by signing Kyle Tucker on a four-year, $240 million contract in the offseason. Veteran Dodgers utility star Kike Hernandez poked fun at Tucker after the series finale against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

During Thursday’s series-decider against the Pirates, Tucker lost the “LA” logo on his helmet. Hernandez reacted to the picture of Tucker wearing the helmet without a logo in his Instagram story, writing:

“Looking like he plays for Dick Sporting Goods’ team.”

Tucker registered a hit for a second consecutive game as he extended the Dodgers’ lead with an RBI single in the third inning. He went 1-for-5 at the plate with two RBIs as the Dodgers secured an 8-6 win.

However, Tucker’s streak ended in Friday’s series opener against the Chicago White Sox as the All-Star outfielder went 0-for-3 at the plate. The Dodgers fell to an 8-2 loss after a seven-run surge by Chicago in the fifth inning.

The four-time All-Star is batting .234 with 57 hits, 16 doubles, five home runs, 41 runs, 34 RBIs and five stolen bases in 65 games. His .714 OPS is the lowest since his rookie year in 2018.

Kike Hernandez reveals Dodgers’ “mentality” in pursuit of historic three peat

The Dodgers defeated the Toronto Blue Jays to clinch their second consecutive World Series title last year. The NL West team is going for a historic three-peat this season, but Kike Hernandez said they have the “same mentality” as last year.

“But for us, you know, we gotta, we have the mentality of we’re not trying to win three championships, we’re just trying to win this year, which is the same mentality we had the previous two years,” Hernandez said.

“And, you know, if you take it ‘Cause we can only win one championship this year, we can’t win three, so why worry about winning three when you only have to worry about winning one, which is what’s happening in the, in the present moment.”

Despite Friday’s blowout loss, the Dodgers continue to lead the NL West with a comfortable eight-game lead over the San Diego Padres.
