The Rivian R2 is here, and reservation holders have started receiving their long-awaited adventure-ready electric SUVs. Along with the market launch, Rivian has kicked off the official accessory store for the R2, and it includes something that most, if not all, of the R2 competitors lack.
For an extra $755, Rivian R2 owners can buy a compact spare tire that fits neatly under the trunk’s false floor alongside a manual jack and a lug wrench. The kit shows up on Rivian’s online Gear Shop, but customers will have to call the company to order it.

The Tesla Model Y has long been famous for its lack of a spare wheel, but it’s not alone. The Hyundai Ioniq 5, Ford Mustang Mach-E, Kia EV6, and Chevrolet Equinox EV also don’t have a real spare tire and instead offer a tire repair kit.
For what it’s worth, the Rivian R2 is probably the only EV in its segment that’s truly competent off-road, which makes the availability of a spare tire a no-brainer. However, the compact spare needs to be inflated to size, so owners will need to carry a mobile air compressor to keep moving if they get a flat tire. The R2 doesn’t have a built-in compressor, but there are lots of options out there, and even Rivian sells a tire repair kit that includes a small air compressor.
Besides the spare tire, the R2’s official accessories list includes a set of 20-inch Black Sand all-terrain wheels for $5,248, a set of 21-inch Liquid Tungsten all-season wheels for $4,508, $700 cargo crossbars, a $200 cargo cover, a $125 front sunshade, and a $65 screen protector for the infotainment display.

That’s a pretty standard set of accessories. It also makes Rivian one of the few carmakers out there that offers the option for a spare wheel on its entire passenger lineup—the R1S and R1T can also be fitted with a spare, either compact or full-size. As someone who has had to wait for a tow truck on the highway just because I got a flat tire and had no spare, I really appreciate Rivian’s effort to leave some room for a spare wheel in the R2.
The first R2s shipping are the top-spec Performance models with the Launch Package, which includes a tow hook, a special green paint, a fancy key fob, and lifetime access to Rivian’s Autonomy+ driver assistance system, which is expected to deliver hands-off, eyes-off driving in the future.
With a $57,990 starting price, the R2 Performance is powered by two electric motors that deliver up to 656 horsepower and propel the mid-size SUV from a standstill to 60 miles per hour in 3.6 seconds. An 87.9-kilowatt-hour battery pack enables an EPA-estimated 330 miles of range.
A pair of more affordable versions is scheduled to start rolling off the assembly line starting later this year, with the cheapest trim, the Standard, slated for spring 2027.
