It has been confirmed that an ECW Legend was behind a major WWE & TNA partnership move that featured some talented second-generation stars. In a recent interview, the NXT Speed Champion Lexis King talked about the genesis of his Birthright faction. While speaking about his group, he directly credited Extreme Championship Wrestling Legend Tommy Dreamer for bringing them to TNA programming which ended up helping him.

Before coming to WWE back in 2023, Lexis King worked for All Elite Wrestling for several years under the Brian Pillman Jr. name. His initial deal was with Major League Wrestling which allowed him to compete for AEW but he officially signed with Tony Khan’s company back in 2021. His contract expired in July of 2023 and he jumped ship to the Stamford-based company by making his NXT debut in October as a heel.

At the start of this year, Lexis King started his new faction involving other second generation stars called ‘the Birthright”. The group included him alongside Uriah Connors who’s the son of Fit Finlay, Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo, Arianna Grace (Santino Marella’s daughter) and William Regal’s son Charlie Dempsey. The group has been dominating WWE’s developmental brand and also made several appearances on TNA Wrestling’s Thursday Night Impact! recently.

While speaking on the Busted Open Radio, Lexis King thanked ECW Legend Tommy Dreamer confirming that he was the one who brought Birthright to TNA. He stated that going over to TNA started a whole new transformation for him.

“I’ve got to put you (Tommy Dreamer) over before I go, bringing us over to TNA was sort of the start of this whole transformation for me. I started to find myself, and it bled its way over here to NXT. It couldn’t be a better ride, so thank you,” he said. (1:00 onwards)

WWE and TNA have been in working relationship for the past few years now. It is great to see that the relationship has benefitted talent like Lexis King.

Lexis King reveals how he got the idea for Birthright in WWE NXT

During his appearance on the Busted Open Radio, Lexis further talked about how he got the idea for the Birthright faction. He addressed how the fans obviously know that stars like him have a family history in the business and allege that their progress is because of nepotism.

“Everyone knows who you are. Everybody knows you’re Brian Pillman’s son. Everybody knows this is (William) Regal’s son, this is Fit Finlay’s son, that he is a fourth generation wrestler, Uriah Connors. Why are we not leaning into that? I think that was the ultimate powder keg for us, to just say Hey, the fans know who you are, there’s heat there, people hate nepotism. They cry nepotism,” he said. [H:T/WrestleTalk]

It will be interesting to see what’s next for the Birthright under Shawn Michaels‘ creative direction.
