The Dodgers pitcher’s antics have sparked backlash from fans as he didn’t “celebrate the vibrant culture and traditions of the LGBTQ+ community with special pregame programming.”
Treinen didn’t participate in the celebration last year along with former Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw. The former Dodgers pitcher wrote a Bible verse next to his pride hat last year.
Dodgers pitcher Blake Treinen criticized team for inviting controversial queer group in 2023
Blake Treinen previously criticized the Dodgers for inviting the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, a queer group of satirical nuns, in 2023.
“I am disappointed to see The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence being honored as heroes at Dodger Stadium,” Treinen wrote in a statement. “Many of their performances are blasphemous, and their work only displays hate and mockery of Catholics and the Christian faith.
Although Treinen acknowledged the Dodgers’ efforts of supporting “variety of groups,” he said the invitation of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence “promotes hate of Christians and people of faith.”
“I understand that playing baseball is a privilege, and not a right,” he wrote. “My convictions in Jesus Christ will always come first. Since I have been with the Dodgers, they have been at the forefront of supporting a wide variety of groups.”
Treinen kept the Angels scoreless in the top of the ninth inning before All-Star slugger Freddie Freeman’s walk-off home run in the bottom of the inning to clinch a 1-0 win in the series opener against the cross-town rivals.
