During the opening of Gothic 1 Remake, the Nameless Hero is given a letter that he needs to deliver to the fire mages, who are located in the castle in the Old Camp. But you won’t be able to get into the castle unless someone (Diego) vouches for you. But you will need to earn Diego’s trust by gaining some reputation across the outer rings of the Old Camp as part of the Admission to the Old Camp quest. Whistler’s Sword is one of these quests that will give you some positive reputation along with a decent amount of experience.
In this guide, we will break down how to complete the Whistler’s Sword objective in Gothic 1 Remake.
How to complete Whistler’s Sword quest in Gothic 1 Remake
To get the quest, you will need to find and speak to Whistler in the outer rings. During the daytime he can be found sitting outside a hut just west of where you find Torrez and Dexter. Once you have located him, speak to him and ask if you can help him in any way.
Whistler will tell you that he had a disagreement with Fisk regarding a sword and that he needs you to retrieve it for him. He will also give you 100 Nuggets to purchase it from Fisk.
The next objective is to get the sword from Fisk. Fisk is located to the east of Whistler’s location. You will find him sitting outside a cabin just across the campfire.
Interact with Fisk and ask about the sword. Fisk will tell you that he will sell it but for 110 Nuggets. Now if you have enough Nuggets, you can pay for it yourself, or you can choose to make the purchase later. But whatever you do, do not pick the “Weren’t you going to sell it for a hundred?” option, as it will lock you out of the purchase and the quest will fail.
If you pay for the sword yourself, you can return it to Whistler, and the quest will end with you gaining favor with him.
Alternatively, you can go back to Whistler and tell him that Fisk has increased the price by 10 Nuggets. He will give you 10 additional Nuggets, which you can use to purchase the sword from Fisk. Once you have purchased it, return it to Whistler to complete the quest.
Completing the quest will give you 200 XP and progress the Admission to the Old Camp main quest by increasing your reputation with the Shadows.
Note that you can also keep the sword for yourself, but doing so will fail the quest. If you don’t purchase the sword and keep the money for yourself, Whistler will become hostile. Fighting him in the early game is quite difficult, as he can knock you out in just a few hits.
