With Return of the Ancients being the biggest Path of Exile 2 update yet, everyone expected many endgame secrets. The beast towering over a destroyed Oriath was a good one, but who knew sacrificing your character would also be a thing? Patch 0.5 of PoE2 added a secret title achievement, “Martyr of the Edict,” for the first player to sacrifice their character at the Site of the Chosen.
However, their loss isn’t just for show, as all players in the same League can claim an additional Passive point beyond the existing limit. Here’s everything you need to know about claiming the Martyr of the First Edict Passive point in Path of Exile 2.
How to claim Mote of the Martyr Passive point in Path of Exile 2

To get the free Passive point, you first need to reach the endgame and unlock the Fortress of the Ancients. Then make your way to the Burning Monolith, defeat the Arbiter of Ash pinnacle boss, and unlock the inner section of the Fortress.
Then, you need to make your way to the Origin Tower and defeat the new pinnacle boss, Arbiter of Divinity. The fight won’t be easy, but succeeding will grant you access to the Site of the Chosen, where you can claim the Mote of the Martyr’s Power for a Passive point.
If you defeated the Arbiter of Divinity before someone made the sacrifice, then you’ll find an empty chamber instead of the Mote. The chamber is how you grant the entire server a free point by permanently deleting your character.
How to become Martyr of the First Edict in Path of Exile 2

To become a Martyr, you need to reach character level 100, then defeat the Arbiter of Divinity once more to use the chamber. If you decide to sacrifice your character, a global message will appear for every player on the same server about your sacrifice, and they’ll be able to claim the Passive point. Note that each mode can have one Martyr, meaning the regular League, SSF, and Hardcore each can have a Martyr.
The first player to become one was Carn in Solo-Self Found, followed by ResurrectGodAura in Runes of Aldur League. The discovery also raises the stakes for Hardcore players, as not only will they miss out on becoming the number one character to 100, but they’ll also lose the race for the title.
