The Stadion Narodowy in Warsaw stages an international friendly between Poland and Nigeria on Wednesday. Neither side will feature at the FIFA World Cup later this month, but both will be eager to secure a positive result and build momentum ahead of their return to competitive action in September.
Poland’s quest for a third consecutive appearance on the global stage was extinguished by an 88th-minute strike from Arsenal‘s Viktor Gyokeres as the Biało-Czerwoni suffered a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Sweden in the playoff final in March.
Thanks for the submission!
Despite their failure to qualify for the World Cup, the Polish Football Association reaffirmed their faith in head coach Jan Urban by handing the former Osasuna manager a new contract.
The Eagles suffered a disappointing 2-0 defeat to Ukraine in a friendly at the Wrocław Stadium on Sunday, and Urban will be keen to see his side bounce back when they return to action this week.
Nigeria, meanwhile, will miss out on a second consecutive World Cup after falling on penalties to DR Congo in the CAF playoff final last November.
Performance levels have improved since then, a trend evident during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, where the Super Eagles were among the standout teams in the tournament and ultimately claimed the bronze medal.
Wednesday’s trip to Poland presents the Super Eagles with their third game of this international break following wins over Zimbabwe and Jamaica, results that saw the West African nation win the Unity Cup for a fourth successive time.
Poland vs Nigeria Head-to-Head and Key Numbers
- Wednesday’s game will mark just the second-ever meeting between Poland and Nigeria.
- The two nations first met in a friendly in 2018, with the Super Eagles running out 1-0 winners courtesy of a second-half penalty from Victor Moses.
- While that 2018 encounter remains Poland’s most recent meeting with an African nation, Nigeria last faced European opposition in June 2025, playing out a 1-1 draw with Russia.
- Poland occupy 35th place in the latest FIFA World Rankings, while Nigeria sit nine places higher in 26th place.
Poland vs Nigeria Prediction
Very little separates these two teams in terms of form, with Biało-Czerwoni having lost just two of their last nine matches while Nigeria have suffered only one defeat in their last 11.
However, the Super Eagles are without a number of their key players for this one, including Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman, which could deal a major blow to their chances on foreign soil.
Prediction: Poland 2-1 Nigeria
