Mohamed Salah has claimed that Liverpool are the ‘worst club in the world’ in one aspect in his farewell speech to his teammates. The Egyptian will don the iconic red jersey for the final time on Sunday, May 24 as the Merseyside giants take on Brentford in their final game of the season.
Salah announced his decision to leave the Reds at the end of the season in March and the club gave him a farewell on the training ground on Saturday, May 23. Manager Arne Slot, along with his staff and the players, gathered as the manager thanked Salah and another departing club icon, Andy Robertson.
Thanks for the submission!
Salah gave a speech to his teammates, urging them to improve next season following an underwhelming season. He claimed that Liverpool are the best team in the world when they win and also the worst team when they don’t. He said, as quoted by GOAL:
“I don’t want to be emotional today, because tomorrow is going to be an emotional day. But, I really appreciate every moment I’ve had at this club. I’ve had a great time with all of you, and it’s something I will take with me in the future, so thank you very much. Hopefully, I’ll see you soon again.”
Salah added:
“Wait, one more thing I want to say. Being in Liverpool, winning for Liverpool and winning games is the best thing that could happen to you. I think this is the best club in the world when you win something and the worst club in the world when you lose. So you better win next year.”
Salah has etched his name in the Reds’ history books during his nine-year stint at Anfield. He has made 441 appearances for the club till date scoring 257 goals and providing 122 assists.
Salah won everything during his time at the club, including two Premier League titles and one Champions League. He will go down in the history books as one of the greatest players the Premier League has ever witnessed.
Florian Wirtz responds when asked if Liverpool stars liking Mohamed Salah’s outburst means they are against Arne Slot
Florian Wirtz has dismissed speculations of the players turning against Arne Slot after many of them liked Mohamed Salah’s controversial Instagram post. It has been a season to forget for both Liverpool and their talisman Salah who has been a shadow of the player he was last season.
Salah played a pivotal role in guiding Arne Slot’s side towards the Premier League title last season. He scored 29 goals and provided 18 assists in 38 league games last season and won the PFA Player of the Year.
The Egyptian made the headlines a number of times this season, with tensions evidently brewing between him and Slot. It seemed that things became better between the two until Salah’s explosive Instagram post following Liverpool’s 4-2 loss against Aston Villa.
Many players, including Florian Wirtz liked the post but the German has clarified that the post was not meant to attack the manager. He said:
“No, nothing like that. I like Mo’s mentality in general — how he sees things, how he works. He’s a guy you can listen to, because he has seen a lot. He wasn’t attacking anyone. With the ‘likes’ players gave, I think it was made too big. For me, it was just a thing that he wanted to say because he’s leaving. He wanted to make everyone in the club alert that we have to work more and do better.”
Salah has endured the worst season of his Liverpool career this time out scoring just 12 goals and providing nine assists in 40 games. He will leave Anfield in the summer and will represent the Reds for the last time in their final game of the season against Brentford.
