New Delhi: The Competition Commission of India (CCI) is building institutional capacity to better understand digital markets and the evolving role of artificial intelligence, chairperson Ravneet Kaur said Wednesday.

She said the regulatory body needs to expand its competencies by bringing in data scientists and analysts that understand what goes on behind AI applications.

“While I have a team which is looking at the law, and economic analysis, we also need to build insights when it comes to understanding the AI tools and the way digital markets are functioning,” she said at the 17th annual day of CCI.

Kaur underscored the need for bringing in people with skills across forensic audit and technological understanding.

The regulator is also increasing the number of approvals under automated route for ‘non-problematic’ transactions. “In today’s date, green channel constitutes more than 20% (approvals). We have done 143 deemed approvals,” Kaur said.
