Popular AEW star Chris Jericho recently spoke about his name change. The star returned to All Elite Wrestling back in April and has been a prominent feature of weekly shows since then.

Jericho had been on a year-long hiatus from the Jacksonville-based company. During his time away from the ring, there were speculations about the star possibly returning to WWE for a farewell stint. However, the Ayatollah of Rock ‘N Rolla proved the rumours wrong when he showed up on the April 1, 2026 edition of Dynamite. The star later mentioned that he was back home and signed a multi-year contract with the company.

During a recent interview with Ringer Wrestling, the ring veteran spoke in detail about using only his last name. He mentioned that dropping the first name created some curiosity among fans. The AEW star admitted that he got the idea from self-titled albums. He felt everybody knew who Jericho is and hearing that name brings back many memories that fans have of the wrestling legend.

“I like the idea of what I’m doing now with ‘Jericho.’ And by not using that first name a lot, it created this whole intrigue online like, ‘What’s he doing? What’s the idea? What’s the reason?’ Honestly, it’s like a self-titled album. That’s where I kind of got the idea from. I could create a dozen other nicknames, but how many more do I need? Everyone knows who Jericho is, and when you hear that name, then you can go remember whatever memories you have on your own.”

Chris Jericho is gearing up for a huge match at Double or Nothing

Chris Jericho is set to compete in a huge Stadium Stampede match at Double or Nothing. This past week on Dynamite, the teams for the chaotic bout were officially finalized. The match will take place inside Louis Armstrong Stadium in Queens, New York.

After members of The Elite aligned with Team Jericho during Saturday’s Fairway to Hell special, Ricochet responded by adding the likes of Andrade El Idolo, David Finlay and Clark Connors of The Dogs to his side. The full Team Ricochet lineup now includes the Lightskin Kingpin, Bishop Kaun, Toa Liona, Mark Davis, Andrade, Finlay, and Connors. They will face Chris Jericho, Kenny Omega, The Young Bucks, Jack Perry, Bobby Lashley, and Shelton Benjamin in the massive multi-man showdown at the pay-per-view.
