A major champion in AEW recently suffered a huge setback to his momentum. However, it took place at a major event outside the Jacksonville-based promotion.

The aforementioned star is the reigning Ring of Honor World Champion, Bandido. The luchador has been a part of ROH since 2018. After Tony Khan bought the promotion, Bandido’s contract was acquired alongside those of other wrestlers. The masked star has appeared on AEW television multiple times, feuding with top stars like Chris Jericho.

This led to a blockbuster title match between the two superstars at the AEW Dynasty 2025 pay-per-view, where Bandido defeated the Demo God to become the ROH World Champion. He has held the title since then; however, a major defeat at a recent event could bring his reign to an end.

At CMLL’s Domingo Familiar event, Bandido squared off against Volador Jr. in the main event. The duo delivered a highly enthralling showdown that captivated the audience. However, the end result saw Bandido take the defeat at the hands of his opponent in a non-title contest. Following that, Volador Jr. challenged Bandido to another match, but this time, with his ROH World Championship on the line.

Former AEW World Champion isn’t worried about facing Bandido

At the ROH Supercard of Honor 2026 event, Bandido was attacked by Swerve Strickland after his match with Blake Christian. The duo is set to collide in the quarter-finals of the Owen Hart Foundation Cup tournament at Double or Nothing 2026. Speaking on an AEW Exclusive, The Mogul claimed that he would easily defeat Bandido and gain more power in All Elite Wrestling.

“You wanna talk about necessary? At this stage of my career, at this point in 2026, you want to talk about what’s necessary? I’m at the stage of any means necessary right now. The Owen is right around the corner. Bandido’s my very first opponent. Do I care if he gets back up or if he makes it to the first round? No, I don’t. By any means necessary, I’m gonna get through this Owen. I still want my power in AEW. Now it’s more about power within the industry, cuz every time I seem to speak, people wanna click, people wanna talk, people wanna comment, people wanna voice their own narratives about me, about (Prince) Nana, about what we’re doing here,” he said.

With Bandido suffering a huge defeat at the hands of Volador Jr. at the CMLL event, it remains to be seen if it will affect his performance against Strickland at Double or Nothing 2026.
