Following an underwhelming display in the Cleveland Cavaliers’ Game 6 loss to the Detroit Pistons, Donovan Mitchell bounced back with a strong performance in the deciding game. Alongside his showing, the guard also drew attention for a playful mid-game bump with fiancee Coco Jones.

The NBA on Prime handle highlighted the hilarious moment between the couple on X (formerly Twitter), sharing a clip of their playful encounter.

“Donovan Mitchell bumped into his fiancée, Coco Jones, after the foul 😅,” NBA on Prime captioned the post.

In the clip, Mitchell appeared to collide with Jones during a third-quarter play after being fouled by Ausar Thompson while driving for a layup. The guard went out of bounds following the contact, crashing into his fiancee, who playfully shoved him back onto the court, drawing smiles all around.

While the moment between the couple stood out, Mitchell’s performance remained the main talking point. The guard delivered a strong response in Game 7, recording 26 points in three quarters after being limited to just 18 in the previous outing.

However, he fouled out in the third quarter, limiting his minutes to 28.

His return to form will be a positive for the Cavaliers, who secured a blowout win in Game 7 to seal the series, eliminating the No. 1-seeded Detroit Pistons and setting up an Eastern Conference finals matchup against the New York Knicks.

It marks Cleveland’s first trip to the Eastern Conference finals in the post-LeBron era and Mitchell’s first appearance at that stage, as the guard looks to guide the franchise toward its second NBA title this season.

NBA statistician explains why Cavs did not challenge wrongful call on Donovan Mitchell as guard fouls out in Game 7

Donovan Mitchell made a bright start in the Cleveland Cavaliers’ Game 7 clash against the Detroit Pistons but saw his night end early after picking up his fifth foul in the third quarter.

The call, a shooting foul, was widely viewed as incorrect. However, the Cavaliers did not challenge the decision, surprising many.

NBA statistician Chip Clark later clarified why a challenge was not possible.

“In reference to the shooting foul incorrectly called on Donovan Mitchell @ 9:23 in Q3,” Clark wrote. “Cavs lost the ability to challenge that call as soon as Mitchell picked up a delay of game warning for walking away with the ball. Even if they wanted to challenge it, they couldn’t at that point.”

Despite fouling out, Mitchell had already made a significant impact, helping the Cavaliers secure an impressive win over the Pistons.
