There are quite a few Leviathans in Subnautica 2, which, much like those in the first game, will chase and try to eat you outright. You can sca n them for information, but you’ll be doing this at your own risk. Not all of them will be able to catch you, that is, if you’re using something like a Tadpole, but why try your luck and meet with an early end?
Having said that, with the game just having been released in early access, we know of four Leviathans that you will encounter. More could be added (alongside achievements) in later versions of the game or during v1.0, but for now, here’s what you need to know about the behemoths of the ocean.
There are four confirmed Leviathans in Subnautica 2
World Tree

When it comes to Leviathans in Subnautica 2, the World Tree is the largest there is, but you don’t need to worry about it (for the time being), as it’s dormant. Without giving away too many spoilers, this living fossil is at the heart of the storyline, and it can be scanned if you’re able to get close enough to it. However, this task will need you to be cheeky and use console commands. As more content for the game is released, we’ll get to know more about this enigmatic being.
Great Jaw

The next creature on the list is perhaps one of the only Leviathans in Subnautica 2 that doesn’t move in the traditional sense, but that doesn’t make it any less dangerous. Envision a clam; now scale it a few thousand times, and what you get is the Great Jaw. When triggered, it will slowly close shut, engulfing anything within its mouth. Venturing near it is dangerous, but if you need Lithium, risks will have to be taken.
Shiver

When you listen to “Under the Sea” from Disney’s “The Little Mermaid,” you think of majestic aquatic fauna and mesmerising sea creatures, but that’s far from the case in Subnautica 2. The deeper you go, the more you are reminded that the principles of deep-sea gigantism don’t just pertain to real life.
To exist, life has evolved and grown massive to adapt to the high-pressure and cold environment, which in turn has given birth to the Shiver. While the males of this species are already gigantic, the females are outright massive. You should do well to avoid them by staying clear of the Void.
This region of the ocean is an early access preview area where you cannot build. However, if you want to test your luck and scan these creatures, you’re free to do so, but remember that death can find you quickly if you’re a bit too adventurous. That said, based on lore, Shivers are usually found at 5,000 meters, which leads to the question of why they are this close to the surface.
Collector

The Collector is what happens when you cross a squid and an octopus in Leviathans in Subnautica 2. It has three hearts, organic thrusters, and a wide array of sensory capabilities that enable it to be one of the apex predators of the ocean. While not as aggressive as Shivers, this solitary creature can and will hunt you down if you get too close.
They are mainly found in the Outer Bounds and Sparse Plains biomes. If you plan on going exploring there, have a submarine on standby and hit the propulsion as soon as you see it turning towards you. Its in-game thrusters are not for show.
That’s all we know about Leviathans in Subnautica 2. As the game develops, we can expect more of these massive creatures to be introduced. As always, take care while scanning them, or else they’ll be the last thing you scan.
