The new 2027 Chevy Bolt EV drove nearly 300 miles on a single charge during real-world testing, or about 30 miles more than its official EPA-rated range. For under $30,000, the new Bolt hits the sweet spot.

2027 Chevy Bolt tops EPA range in real-world testing

After phasing out the original Chevy Bolt in 2023, GM’s CEO Mary Barra promised the new version would deliver “an even better driving, charging, and ownership experience.”

The original Bolt was GM’s best-selling EV for several years as one of the most affordable electric vehicles in the US, alongside the Nissan LEAF, which was also updated for the 2027 model year. It even won Electrek’s vehicle of the year in 2022.

For the 2027 model year, the Chevy Bolt EV is back and better than ever (see our review of it here). The new Bolt now offers a longer driving range, faster charging, modern tech, and an NACS port.

Powered by a new 65 kWh LFP (lithium iron phosphate) battery, the 2027 Chevy Bolt provides an EPA-estimated driving range of up to 262 miles with a starting price of just $28,995 (including destination).

Although 262 miles is more than enough for most daily or even weekly commutes, the new Bolt will likely drive even further.

During Edmunds’ EV range test, the 2027 Chevy Bolt drove 290 miles on a single charge, beating its official EPA rating. It was also more efficient, achieving an energy consumption of 26.2 kWh per 100 miles, compared to its EPA rating of 28 kWh per 100 miles.

Starting at under $30,000 and offering nearly 300 miles of real-world range, the 2027 Chevy Bolt is one of the best range-per-dollar EVs on the market.

Thanks to the new LFP battery, the new Bolt can now charge 2.5x faster than the outgoing model, with the ability to recharge from 10% to 80% in about 25 minutes.

The interior features a new 11.3″ central touchscreen and an 11″ driver display. Upgrading to the first-ever Bolt RS trim gains a sporty front grille, RS badging, gloss black roof rails, 17″ black wheels, ambient lighting, and black Evotex seats with red stitching.

How does the real-world testing work? The Edmunds EV range test is designed to provide a more accurate estimate of the vehicle’s range in real-world conditions. It includes 60% city and 40% highway driving with an average speed of 40 mph. The car stays within 5 miles of the posted speed limit, is set at its most efficient setting, and the climate control is set on auto at 72 degrees.

    LT $28,995 262 miles
    RS $32,995 262 miles

The 2027 Chevy Bolt EV is available in LT and RS trims, starting at $28,995 and $32,995, including the destination fee. The RS model was the model Edmunds used for testing.

With the new Chevy Bolt EV now at dealerships, GM is making it even more tempting with low interest rates and leases starting at under $400 a month. You can use our link to see local offers and find available 2027 Chevy Bolt EV models at a dealership near you (trusted affiliate link).
