At under $49,000, VW’s ID.Buzz might FINALLY be priced right

    vw id.buzz under $50K

Volkswagen aimed its all-electric ID.Buzz minivan squarely at an nostalgic baby boomer market that had aged out of $70,000 hippie nostalgia purchases by the time it arrived on US shores – but now VW that dealers are advertising the premium van for less than $49,000, VW’s new-age bus might be worth a second look.

SKIP THE STORY: take me to the deal!

After teasing a modern Bus for nearly two decades (the ID.Buzz was introduced as a concept at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show, and was the fourth Type 2 Bus- or Bulli-inspired concept from VW since 2001), Volkswagen had high hopes for the all electric minivan.

Unfortunately, price-gouging dealer markups sending transaction prices over $100,000 and a drastic over-estimation of the van’s lasting cultural impact more than twenty years after the launch of the first-generation New Beetle conspired against early flippers in particular and the van’s mainstream success in general.

At less than $49,000, however? That may be a different story.

    That’s more like it

Dixon Ford Volkswagen in Dixon, Illinois is advertising a brand-new 2025 Volkswagen ID.Buzz Pro S for “just” $48,365. While that was the lowest price on a new ID.Buzz that I could find, the second lowest price I found wasn’t much higher at just $48,991 (nearly $15,000 off MSRP) at Volkswagen of Marietta in Marietta, Georgia.

Those discounts follow news that there will be no new 2026 model year ID.Buzz models brought to the US. “Following a careful assessment of current EV market conditions, we have made the strategic decision not to move forward with MY26 ID.Buzz production for the US market,” VW said in a statement late last year. Until then, the company plans to sell down current inventory, “ensuring a strong foundation as we prepare for the MY27 transition next year.”

Apparently, those plans include massive, JC Penney-style discounts.

The VW ID.Buzz features a 91 kWh battery pack good for up to 234 miles of EPA-estimated range, while its 282 hp high-torque electric motor is more than up to the task of zipping you and six of your favorite people around town in style. An AWD 4Motion version, that bumps output to 335 hp, though range dips slightly to “just” 231 miles.
