The ID. Buzz is coming back for the 2027 model year. While the electric van is set to return, Volkswagen said the ID.4 is now going on a brief hiatus.

Volkswagen reveals 2027 US lineup changes

After a short absence, Volkswagen announced that the electric minibus will return to its 2027 US lineup. Volkswagen confirmed in December that the ID. Buzz would not receive a 2026 model year. Instead, it said it would use the resources to sell down 2025 models as it prepared for the MY27 transition.

It’s official. Volkswagen is making good on its promise, bringing the ID. Buzz back for a 2027 model year, including a new Tourer model designed for overnight camping trips.

The 2027 ID. Buzz will be available in Pro S RWD, Pro S 4Motion, Tourer 4Motion, and Pro S Plus 4Motion trims. Based on the European “Good Night Package,” the new Tourer model offers a fold-out mattress, window blinds, front-window ventilation panels, and a table and chairs for outdoor use.

A new Overnight Mode adjusts interior and exterior functions, such as lighting and climate control, for overnight adventures. To top it off, VW added a retractable tow hitch, Captain’s Chairs, an electrochromic smart roof, Area View, and 20-inch dark graphite wheels.

All new 2027 ID. Buzz models feature Volkswagen’s new infotainment software (ID.S 6), along with a few new color schemes, including nostalgic Candy White and Cherry Red.

The electric minibus now also comes with a North American Charging System (NACS) adapter for Tesla Superchargers and one-pedal driving.

Premium services are now bundled into a single subscription. Depending on the model, available features include: Premium Navigation, Premium Speech (with ChatGPT), Premium Radio, and Wi-Fi hotspot capabilities.

New features for 2027 include myQ Connected Garage, which gives you remote access to your garage via the in-car navigation screen; TravelAssist with assisted lane change; AirConsole, which transforms the infotainment screen into a gaming platform; and What3Words, which simplifies navigation with three-word addresses.

Volkswagen said the new ID. Buzz, Atlas, Golf, and Tiguan feature two “significantly enhanced ADAS. TravelAssist now features lane changes, improved lane centering, and enhanced predictive Adaptive Cruise Control.

In addition, Emergency Assist can now automatically move the vehicle to the right shoulder or bring it to a complete stop if it detects no driver interaction.

The new 2027 VW models will begin arriving at dealerships in August, with others following throughout early 2027.

What about the 2027 VW ID.4?

While the ID. Buzz is set to return, Volkswagen’s other electric vehicle, the ID.4, will not receive a 2027 model year. According to Volkswagen, “ID.4 models will remain available to customers in the US through current MY26 inventory,” which the company expects will be sufficient into 2027.

The hiatus comes as Volkswagen prepares to introduce an all-new version of the electric SUV for the North American market.

What will that entail? We have a good idea after several prototypes were caught testing with a more traditional SUV-like profile, similar to the Tiguan. With Volkswagen moving away from the numerical naming system (ID.3/ID.4/ID.5), the new ID.4 is expected to be named the ID. Tiguan when it arrives.

Inside, the interior will feature a similar setup to the ID. Polo and upcoming ID. Cross with Volkswagen’s new interior design. The setup features its latest infotainment system with a 10.25″ driver display and a 13″ touchscreen navigation, plus additional physical buttons below the central display and on the steering wheel.

Volkswagen said it will share more details soon, but the ID. Tiguan is expected to ride on its updated MEB+ platform to improve driving range and charging speeds.

The current VW ID.4, powered by a 77 kWh battery, provides an EPA-estimated range of up to 291 miles in the RWD version. The AWD ID.4 drops to around 263 miles. The lowest-priced 2026 Volkswagen ID.4 Pro currently starts at $45,095 in the US.

With the new 2027 models coming soon, Volkswagen is offering a $7,500 Customer Cash Bonus on current ID.4 and ID. Buzz models to make room. You can use the links below to see local offers and find available vehicles near you.
