Rick Ross has made it clear that nobody was scared of Drake dropping his highly anticipated album, ICEMAN, days after he seemingly extended an olive branch to his former collaborator and said he didn’t want to see him lose. Rick Ross and Drake, who previously joined forces and made hit records like Stay Schemin and Aston Martin Music, suddenly turned foes in 2024 amid the Canadian rapper’s diss battle with Kendrick Lamar.
Rick Ross has addressed his apparent feud with Drake in multiple interviews in the past. The Maybach Music Group founder recently played Aston Martin Music at his VERZUZ battle with French Montana, but preferred to skip over Drake’s vocals and encouraged the audience to sing instead.
On May 12, the rapper appeared on Hot 97 for an interview with Nesa to promote his Renaissance of a Boss book, when the host asked him about the VERZUZ battle and wondered what happened between the two rappers. Ross replied that Drake “lost focus,” adding that he didn’t harbor any hate for the rapper but wanted to “chastise” him for stepping out of line. Ross further said there was no conspiracy behind his supposed rivalry with Drake, adding:
“We made history with a lot of records. It’s a lot of people that don’t know, but it was that he lost focus, that’s it. I’m sure he’s back focused…People would love for me to say I hate this n***a forever, and naw it ain’t that. When somebody steps out of line, and you got to chastise them or give them a spanking, that’s what you do. But is it one of those things where it’s a conspiracy? Hell no. Don’t nobody fear a Drake album release. Nobody.”
When asked whether he saw a possibility of a reconciliation between the two, Rick Ross replied that French Montana would have to mediate things between them, saying:
“[Drake] speaks to French. French says a lot of positive things that he should maybe send French a pecan pie for … because nobody would speak on his behalf to me. But French do and that’s what I made it clear if anything was to ever come from that it would come through French because it wouldn’t directly come to Rozay.”
Rick Ross did not want to see Drake lose
Rick Ross’ apparent beef with Drake began after the latter allegedly sent a cease-and-desist to French Montana, as stated in Ross’ Drake diss track Champagne Moments, which he released in April 2024 in response to Drake dissing him on Push Ups.
Ross also unfollowed Drake on Instagram and posted an Instagram Story about listening to Like That, the track believed to have instigated the rap beef between Drake and Kendrick Lamar. In a 2024 interview with Yung Miami, Ross explained that he dissed Drake because he mentioned his name on Push Ups, which he said was a “no-no, especially when it ain’t about no real s**t.”
During an April 2026 interview with Thoughts In a Culli, Rick Ross expanded more about his apparent feud with Drake, claiming the latter had a “lot of issues” and suggested that a possible reconciliation was up to the Canadian rapper. On May 8, one day after his VERZUZ battle, Rick Ross appeared on Apple Music’s Rap Life Review and said he didn’t want to see Drake lose when discussing why he skipped his vocals during the battle, adding:
“Drake, if you listening to this homie, listen to me, my n***a, shine. I don’t want to see you lose. No real n***a want to see you lose. That ain’t what about. This culture, this game, this rap this ain’t what it’s about.”
Drake’s much-awaited studio album, titled ICEMAN, will be released on May 15, 2026.
